As part of our policy to meet the needs of each individual child, we take into account any special educational needs or disability a child may have in order to make reasonable adjustments and/or additional provisions or support within the school to meet the child’s requirements.
We seek to identify any special educational needs at an early stage so we can provide appropriate support for each individual child. We are an inclusive school and strive to meet the needs of all the children.
We provide support for children with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) including:
- Speech, language and communication difficulties including autism spectrum conditions.
- Cognition and Learning; including specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia
- Social, Emotional or Mental Health difficulties
- Sensory and /or Physical needs; including visual or hearing needs or a physical difficulty that affects their learning.
There are occasions when children have additional needs requiring them to receive extra support. We work in co-production with parents to source and manage outside interventions and therapies. We welcome and support these therapies on our school premises. This support may be in the form of assistance from a dedicated classroom assistant for pupils with EHCPs, classroom assistants supporting group work, a specialist assessment (for example an Educational Psychologist), therapeutic intervention (for example Speech and Language Therapy or Occupational Therapy) or specialist teaching.

Barnet's Local Offer
The Local Offer from the London Borough of Barnet gives children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families information about education, health and care services, leisure activities and support groups in their local area. You can find out more about this on the London Borough of Barnet’s website.
At MMK, we believe in providing every pupil with support in all areas of need. If your child has a specific need, be it academic or emotional, we have a team of professionals to support them.
Our Wellbeing and Sensory Rooms allow space for our pupils to self-regulate and feel calm. Our Zones of Regulation self-regulation strategy is fully supported through these spaces as well as in every classroom.
If we feel your child needs a more tailored plan or approach, we will put you in touch with the right professional whilst taking advice to support your child in school.
We have a school counsellor who is privately paid for by parents should their child need further support.
If you would like to hear more about how we can help you and your child further, please get in touch with the SEND department via our school office.
